As a Level IV NICU (the highest level NICU) and the only one between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Penn State Health Children's Hospital provides comprehensive, lifesaving care to the most critically ill newborns. Our NICU is the only one in Central Pennsylvania to offer a full range of services, including the ability to perform surgery on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

- Essential NICU Beds: In the NICU, different types of beds are used to meet the needs of newborns. Donor gifts help fund essential equipment like incubators, which help maintain oxygen levels, and radiant warmers, which can be used for babies needing surgery. Standard cribs are used for everyday care, while specialized medical beds assist doctors and nurses in caring for infants without added stress.
- Optimal Nutrition: Neonatal patients often need specialized feeding to reach developmental milestones before they can go home. Pediatrician-recommended bottles help make feeding easier by reducing common issues, such as air bubbles, which can make babies uncomfortable. Innovative bottle designs are clinically proven to provide a steady flow of milk, which helps prevent problems like overfeeding or underfeeding, ensuring babies get the right amount of nutrition. The NICU bottles also offer a smooth transition from bottle feeding to breastfeeding.
- Safe, Comfortable Sleep: Sleep sacks offer a secure and snug sleeping environment for infants, helping them keep a consistent body temperature. Their design makes diaper changes quick and easy without disturbing the baby. Plus, the swaddling features of sleep sacks can calm infants and encourage better sleep. As babies grow, different sizes and style of sleep sacks are needed to accommodate their changing needs and ensure continued comfort and safety.
